Security and Safety

Building emergency procedures

IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE:
  1. Pull the Fire Alarm Box. Pull stations are located in the corridors next to each stairwell entrance.
  2. Call the Miami Fire Department. Dial 911.
  3. Notify the Building Management Office. Dial 305-373-3400.
  4. Notify your Floor Warden. It is your responsibility to know who your Floor Warden is and where their office is located.

THE ALARM SYSTEM:
  • When a fire alarm is activated, an audio alarm is sounded on the floor of origin, one floor above and one floor below. The Fire Department will be notified immediately by Fire Command Center personnel.
  • Elevators will return to the main lobby to assist the fire fighters in reaching the affected areas.
  • All stairwell doors and exits will automatically unlock, and the stairwells will automatically become pressurized with outside air.

IF YOU HEAR THE FIRE ALARM:
  1. Stay calm.
  2. Follow instructions. Please listen carefully the announcements made on the Public Address System.
  3. Close doors behind you but do not lock them. Feel doors before opening them. If hot, proceed to another exit.
  4. Use stairs. In case of an evacuation, please proceed to the nearest stairwells.
  5. If smoke is present, stay low. The best air is near the floor.
  6. Do not use elevators. If you are in an elevator when the alarm sounds, the elevator will automatically return to its base level and open.
  7. Do not return for personal items.
  8. If you are outside the building during a fire, stay far enough away to avoid possible falling glass.

IF YOU RECEIVE A BOMB THREAT:
If you receive a bomb threat, try to get as much information as you can about the location and type of bomb, the outside appearance of the bomb, its detonation time, and the reason for its placement. Then:
  1. Notify the Building Management Office. Dial 305-373-3400.
  2. Call the Police. Dial 911.
  3. Notify your supervisor.
  4. Inspect your work area, but DO NOT touch or remove any suspicious object. The decision whether to evacuate is the responsibility of a senior officer of the tenant firm.

IF THERE IS A HURRICANE:
If the National Weather Service issues a hurricane warning, the Building Management Office will notify all tenants. Tenants will be requested to evacuate the building after the government officials provide a mandatory order of evacuation.  Evacuation should be completed within two (2) hours after notification by the Management Office.

Upon notice to evacuate, tenants should take the following measures to protect important items within their offices:
  1. Move important or valuable documents, files and furnishings to an interior office to protect against water damage in the event a window is broken;
  2. Raise the blinds on all windows. This may lessen the impact of a window breaking.
  3. Power down all computer equipment or computerized telephone equipment to avoid loss of information in the event power to the building is disrupted;
  4. Close interior office doors;
  5. Remove loose pictures and other items from walls;
  6. Turn off all office machines;
  7. Turn off all office lights upon leaving;
  8. Close and lock all entry doors.
  9. Please dial 305-373-3400 should you at any time need instruction or assistance during an emergency.

IN CASE OF A MEDICAL EMERGENCY:
If there is a medical emergency in your work area:
  1. Call an ambulance. Dial 911.
  2. Notify the Building Management Office. Dial 305-373-3400. Building Management will then assist the medical team in accessing the building and getting to the sick or injured person.
  3. Stand by the elevators to meet the doctor and/or ambulance attendants and guide them to the sick or injured person.
  4. If the person is to be sent to a hospital, send a friend or fellow employee along to comfort the person and help them at the hospital until a relative arrives.
